ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – During the official visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, on October 22, the United Arab Emirates announced plans to channel an extra €15 billion into Greece as part of a joint investment effort. This new commitment extends the previous €4 billion initiative initiated in May 2022, aiming to strengthen both economic and strategic partnerships between the two nations.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office highlighted that this expansion will enhance collaboration across sectors identified as key development priorities for both countries. The initial program laid the groundwork for joint investments in areas of mutual interest, resulting in significant transactions in healthcare and energy sectors. Officials emphasized that these achievements demonstrate how the partnership can convert economic opportunities into concrete investments. The additional funds will further bolster this existing framework.
At the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens, Sheikh Khaled held talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Their discussions focused on increasing cooperation in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technologies, alongside regional and international issues. Both leaders underscored the importance of reinforcing security, stability, and peace in the region. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, highlighting ongoing progress in bilateral relations.
Strategic Forum Facilitates €12.75 Billion in New Agreements
Coinciding with the visit, the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum took place in Athens, resulting in the signing of agreements and commercial partnerships exceeding €12.75 billion between UAE and Greek entities. These deals span digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, industry, and food security. It’s important to note that the forum agreements are distinct from the €15 billion investment plan. Mitsotakis participated in the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi remarked that the agreements, along with the new investment plan, reflect the growing confidence shared by the two economies. He emphasized the need to convert this momentum into productive projects, describing the UAE as a global hub for trade, investment, and connectivity. He also identified Greece as a strategic gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis was also present at the forum.
Greece Recognized as a Crucial Entry Point into European Markets
The UAE’s decision to expand its investment in Greece underscores its confidence in the country’s economic potential and strategic position. Greece’s location is viewed as vital for linking European markets with regional and international economies. The expanded initiative aims to foster cooperation between investment institutions and companies from both nations, promoting innovation and the exchange of expertise and knowledge. It is designed to open new avenues for investment opportunities.
This announcement aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to establish long-term investment alliances across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany in various sectors, and negotiations with Italy have also intensified. Officials indicated that the Greek initiative represents the beginning of a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
