    Eurozone Manufacturing Stagnates While EU Economic Output Edges Up by 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – According to Eurostat, industrial activity within the euro area remained flat in June 2026 compared to the previous month, whereas the European Union experienced a 0.2% rise in output. These seasonally adjusted figures follow a 0.3% growth in both regions during May. Year-on-year comparisons show a 0.1% increase in the euro area and a 0.6% rise across the EU. The latest data reveal mixed trends across key industrial segments and member states, with the report focusing on industry excluding construction and utilizing adjusted data for monthly analysis.

    In the euro zone, non-durable consumer goods led the monthly gains with a 3.0% increase, while energy output rose by 1.5%, and durable consumer goods saw a modest 0.3% uptick. Conversely, capital goods production declined by 1.4%, and intermediate goods output fell by 0.8%. These shifts left the overall industrial production index at 98.7, unchanged from May, based on a 2021 index of 100. In May, non-durable consumer goods had increased by 3.3%, energy by 2.6%, and capital goods by 0.5%.

    Across the EU, non-durable consumer goods production increased by 2.5% in June, alongside a 1.0% rise in energy output. Durable consumer goods went up by 0.9%, while capital goods experienced a 0.9% decrease. Output of intermediate goods declined by 0.7% compared to May. The EU’s industrial production index reached 101.0 in June, up from 100.8 in May. Starting at 99.2 in January, the index saw five straight monthly increases through June.

    Member states show significant monthly variation

    Denmark recorded the highest monthly increase among EU countries with available data, rising 5.4% in June. Croatia followed with a 5.2% gain, while Lithuania and Finland each grew by 2.1%. Luxembourg experienced the steepest decline at 10.7%, with Portugal down 3.9% and Estonia decreasing by 2.2%. Germany’s output increased by 0.2%, France remained unchanged, Italy dropped 1.0%, and Spain decreased by 0.7%. Ireland saw a 2.0% rise, whereas the Netherlands declined by 1.7% and Slovenia by 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, industrial output in the euro area grew by 0.1% in June. Intermediate goods increased by 0.4%, energy by 0.9%, and capital goods edged up by 0.1%. Meanwhile, durable consumer goods declined by 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.5%. For the EU overall, total production increased by 0.6% from June 2025, with intermediate goods rising 1.0%, energy up 0.3%, and capital goods gaining 0.9%. Conversely, both categories of consumer goods experienced declines.

    Lithuania records leading annual industrial expansion

    Among member states with available data, Lithuania saw the strongest annual growth at 7.7%. Denmark followed with a 6.1% increase, and Poland posted a 4.9% rise. Finland experienced a 4.6% growth, Hungary increased by 4.1%, and Czechia’s output grew 4.0%. Luxembourg, however, registered the largest annual decline at 7.9%, with Romania down 5.6% and Estonia dropping 4.6%. Germany and France each experienced a 0.5% decline, Italy decreased by 0.6%, while Spain increased by 1.0% compared to June 2025.

    Eurostat also revised its estimates for May’s industrial production figures released on July 15. The euro-area monthly change was adjusted from a previously reported decline of 0.2% to a 0.3% increase. The EU monthly figure was revised from a 0.1% decline to a 0.3% gain. Yearly May output was also amended, showing a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% increase across the EU. Eurostat compiles these regional figures based on seasonally adjusted national data and estimates missing recent observations when calculating the aggregates.
